Meet the Summer Advisers

To help guide you through the initial course selection and registration process during the month of June, please schedule an appointment with one of our summer advisers.

Rebecca Barrow

Welcome! I am the assistant registrar for advising and curricular support, my day-to-day is centered on the academic needs of ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø students. I have been at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø for seven years and have worked for a few of the academic departments before joining the Registrar’s Office. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and attended a small liberal arts college in the Midwest that is similar in size and values to ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø. We chose the same type of education and I am excited to be a resource for you as you navigate college life.

Mario Belloni

I am a professor of the Physics Department and a Holistic Adviser. The picture is from Halloween 2018; I am on the left and on the right is a physics and economics major from Quito, Ecuador. As an undergraduate, I majored in economics and physics before pursuing physics for my Ph.D. I grew up in the Bay Area in California and spent time in Connecticut and Florida before moving to ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø, where I live with my wife. I am also the proud parent of a recent college grad. I have been teaching at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø for about 21 years and teach both introductory and advanced physics classes. During my time at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø, I have served as a holistic advisor to students who have majored in almost every field we offer.

Email me for an appointment at mabelloni@davidson.edu.

Angie Dewberry

I am the registrar at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø College and also a member of the Class of 2000. As a holistic adviser, I enjoy working closely with students as they adjust to life at college. As a former ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø athlete (soccer!), I can relate to the balancing act of being a student-athlete and I still enjoy attending athletic events today with my family. I grew up in California, but have now lived in the South longer than anywhere else. I am an avid reader, enjoy taking my dog on hikes, and look forward to the day that Carolina Cones opens for the ice cream season. Please do not be too shy to ask your questions. We are all here to help.

Emily Eisenstadt

Welcome to ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø! I am the director of Alvarez College Union and student activities , so I work with new student and family orientation, student organizations, and Patterson Court Council. I have been at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø for over eight years. I am originally from South Carolina and also went to a small, residential liberal arts college for my undergraduate degree. I’ve been serving as a holistic advisor since 2017 and truly enjoy helping students find their place at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø. Outside of work, I enjoy taking advantage of all the Charlotte area has to offer, especially the US National Whitewater Center.

Rosalba Esparragoza

I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and received a B.A. in Philology and Languages from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, as well as an M.A. in the Teaching of Languages: Spanish and TESOL from the University of Southern Mississippi.

In 2021, I earned my doctoral degree in Educational Leadership: Higher Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My research area is self-efficacy in learning.

Cara Evanson

I have served as an adviser for pre-major students at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø since 2012. I love the opportunity the holistic pre-major advising program gives me to get to get to know brand-new first-year students and see them learn and grow over the next few years. In college I was a Spanish major with minors in Religion and Latin American Studies. I’m from Wisconsin but happily ditched my snow shovel when I moved to North Carolina. Outside of work I enjoy attending lectures, concerts, and theatre performances.

I am a professor in the Chemistry Department. I completed my undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Washington and lee University, Masters at UNC Wilmington and PhD at UNC Chapel Hill.  I taught at UNC Chapel Hill and Oregon State before moving to ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø in 2002. I teach chemistry at all levels of the curriculum, as well as courses in Environmental Studies. I am spending the beginning of the summer working with students in the laboratory investigating the physical and chemical properties of waterpipe tobacco smoke. My older daughter is a junior at W&L and her sister will be freshman at Wake Forest in the fall.  My husband and I live in ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø with our three dogs and two cats.  I look forward to chatting with you about the kinds of courses you would like to explore this fall.

Marc Jacobsen

I am the associate registrar and have been at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø since 2014. I am originally from Long Island, but I have lived in Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia before moving to North Carolina. I’ve been serving as a holistic adviser since the program started, but I’ve been an academic adviser for over ten years. My work prior to ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø centered around helping students make the transition from high school to college, and I am glad I am able to continue that work here. When the weather is warm you will find me with friends, a book or podcast on my boat on Lake Norman. I enjoy watching professional tennis and women’s collegiate volleyball (both ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø and the Big 10).

Justin King

I am the athletic trainer for the Men’s Basketball, Golf, and Cheer teams. I just finished my fifth season in athletics here at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø. I really enjoy working with athletes and being a holistic advisor. I graduated from BYU 12’ and Weber State 14’ but grew up moving around a ton in the United State and Europe with a parent in the military and have traveled quite a bit since. I lived in Germany for 2 years as a church missionary and speak fluent German. I am married with three kids and have a Aussie-Doodle named Cosmo. We enjoy hiking, camping, and going to the beach. When I’m not at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø or hanging out with the fam, I am a contract athletic trainer with the US National Soccer Federation and get to spend a few weeks a year working with men’s or women’s US national teams. I am passionate about sports and sports medicine and have really enjoyed my time here at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø. Please reach out if you want to connect with questions over academics, student life, or have questions about being a scholar-athlete. It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!

My post-doctoral training was in cancer biology. I enjoy getting to know my advisees and watching them develop their identities and grow into remarkable young people. Liz Wilson

Hi! I work in the Matthews Center for Career Development, mainly with students interested in pursuing careers in business/finance. In my day-to-day work, I help students figure out what they might want to do for a career and work with them on their resumes, cover letters, and interview skills to help them obtain internships and jobs. I’ve worked at ÃÛÌÒÉçÇø for three years and have also served as a holistic adviser and the adviser for two student organizations on campus. I was an English major in college, so I truly appreciate the liberal arts and how well it prepares you for the future! In my free time, I love watching college football, reading, and finding great places to eat in our area. Please reach out—I look forward to talking with you!
